On a recent Sunday afternoon, shortly before 3 p.m., a tragedy occurred on Maryland Route 32. Two vehicles were involved in a reported head-on collision that resulted in the loss of one life and critical injuries to two others. The Carroll County crash remains under police investigation.
The fatal accident occurred north of Lakeland Drive in Finksburg. According to Maryland troopers, the driver of a vehicle, a 67-year-old female, was heading south on the road when she apparently misjudged a curve. Police say that failing to negotiate the bend caused the woman's car to veer across the center line of traffic, crashing head-on into an oncoming vehicle.
Sadly, a 78-year-old passenger in the woman's vehicle was killed in the accident. It was reported that the driver was injured and was airlifted to a nearby medical facility. The driver behind the wheel of the vehicle that was struck was also injured and flown to a shock trauma unit for emergency care. Updates on the conditions of both injured persons are listed as "critical."
In the state of Maryland, negligent or reckless driving in a head-on collision is sometimes grounds for formal litigation if an injured victim wishes to file a personal injury claim in a civil court in order to seek compensation for damages. In cases where a victim's injuries have proved fatal, immediate family members who survive their loved one are entitled to file a claim on his or her behalf. The court will sometimes award compensation that can then be used to help offset financial costs incurred during, or in the aftermath of, an accident, such as medical bills, loss of wages or, in the case of a loved one's death, expenses connected with funeral arrangements.
