3 Suspects Facing Drug Possession Charges

Over a three-day period, authorities have arrested three people related to suspected drug activity. The Maryland individuals were arrested on a number of charges, including drug possession and drug paraphernalia possession. At this time, the charges are still pending and trials are scheduled for later this year.

In the first case, authorities received reports of possible drug dealing and launched an investigation. Upon approaching a 21-year-old male, he reportedly threw heroin on the ground while fleeing from officials. The suspect was caught and authorities allegedly discovered that he had 13 packages of heroin on him. At last report, he had been jailed on a $50,000 bond for charges of possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

In another case, authorities were patrolling an area and allegedly noticed that two men appeared to be acting suspiciously. When authorities approached the men, one of the suspects threw heroin to the ground. Upon a search, officers reportedly discovered cocaine and heroin in their possession. Both of the suspects face charges of possession of heroin and cocaine and illegal drug paraphernalia possession. One suspect was released on a $5,000 bond while the other is still being jailed on a $5,000 bond.

Drug possession charges can lead to heavy penalties if convictions are obtained. State prosecutors will need to convince a jury that the defendants were in possession of the drugs listed for the convictions to occur. The prosecution always bears the burden of proof in criminal cases, and defendants often benefit from preparing a strong criminal defense. Furthermore, they are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a Maryland jury in a criminal courtroom.
