A car crash is a terrifying experience for everyone involved, especially when there are injuries or fatalities. When accidents are thought to be caused by negligence, the terror often turns into anger and frustration for the accident's victims. In a recent Maryland auto accident that left a woman and her child injured, they and their family are likely wondering if the accident could have been prevented.
The crash occurred on a recent Tuesday evening in Frederick County. After an initial investigation, police believe that a man, who was driving a sports car, was headed in the northbound direction when he lost control of his vehicle for a reason that remains unknown. His vehicle appears to have veered into the southbound lane where he hit a car driven by a female. The man was declared dead at the scene, while the mother and her son, who was traveling with her, were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities do not believe that alcohol or drugs were contributing factors. The crash caused the road to be shut down for a couple of hours while police cleared the scene. Authorities are still investigating the incident.
If the woman believes that the male driver's negligence led to the accident, she may elect to file a personal injury claim against the man's estate with a Maryland civil court. If the claim is successful, she may be awarded damages. Damages awarded by a civil court may include compensation for her and her son's pain and suffering and compensation for losses the family suffered due to the auto accident, including the cost of medical care or lost wages.
