Drug charges can bring about consequences that may be scary for those who are arrested. Maryland prosecutors do not hesitate to take drug charges seriously and these types of allegations are often handled vigorously. In early November, a 23-year-old woman was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia while at a motel in Prince Frederick.
Police arrived at the motel after receiving a complaint about possible drug activity. Apparently, an employee of the motel was able to smell marijuana that he suspected was coming from one of the rooms. One of the officers went to the room, announced his presence and, upon entry, smelled what he believed to be a strong odor of marijuana.
The officer discovered that the woman, who was an occupant of the room, was in possession of what he suspected to be paraphernalia associated with drug use. She was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. It is not known if she is still being held at a jail facility and no other information about this arrest has been reported.
Those who are arrested on certain drug charges may face long prison sentences if convicted. However, in this case, the woman was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, which is a misdemeanor in Maryland. In spite of that, having any type of drug charge on one's record could pose a problem when trying to find employment or when applying for certain certifications. Regardless of the severity of the consequences she faces, the woman may benefit from having a full understanding of her legal options as a way to increase the odds of her case having a favorable outcome.
