Anti-Drunk Driving Campaign Leads to DWI Charges for Two

Most people are aware that convictions for driving under the influence (DUI) can have profound effects on their lives. People who are arrested and charged with DUI can face driver's license suspension and other, more severe, penalties, such as jail time. Maryland authorities recently arrested two people who now face DUI charges as the result of an anti-drunk driving campaign.

Authorities were conducting a special operation over a recent weekend in eastern Maryland. Multiple agencies participated in the operation, and they checked 83 vehicles at one particular checkpoint. At the checkpoint, none of the drivers stopped were pulled over for field sobriety tests, but two people ended up arrested in other parts of the county due to associated increased patrols.

Police say that one of the individuals arrested faces not only a charge for DUI, but also additional charges for assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. No further details were given of the actions of this driver. In addition, no details were released concerning the blood alcohol content of either of the drivers arrested.

The accused are likely preparing to defend themselves against the DUI charges they face. Their defense is particularly important since DUI convictions come with serious consequences, such as the loss of a driver's license and heavy fines, and can even create obstacles that can prevent obtaining future employment. To help overcome these obstacles, the accused will need to focus on gaining an understanding of their legal rights and the court procedures they will likely encounter. It is important to remember that being arrested for DUI does not automatically mean that one will be convicted. As with any Maryland defendant who is facing charges for criminal conduct, those charged with DUI will be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
