Driver and Maryland Officer Injured in Car Accident

A car accident with an law enforcement vehicle is not a common occurrence, but it does happen. A recent accident caused injuries to two people, including a Maryland police officer. The auto accident happened on a recent Wednesday evening in Prince George County.

Authorities arrived at the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation into the crash that happened just after 7 p.m. The initial investigation determined that the accident took place when the officer was headed in a westbound direction. He reportedly had his sirens on at the time, and he was attempting to make a left turn. The driver of a vehicle that was headed in the northbound direction collided with the officer's vehicle. The driver and the officer both suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities do not know what emergency the officer was traveling to. They spoke to witnesses who informed them that drivers came to a stop once they observed the officer's vehicle approaching. The lights on the vehicle were on, and the siren was also operating.

It's not known exactly which party was responsible for the auto accident. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, either party could pursue legal action against the other by filing a personal injury claim. If a personal injury claim is filed, the court will give both parties the opportunity to present their sides of the case to determine who was negligent. If negligence is proven to the satisfaction of a Maryland civil courtroom, then monetary damages may be awarded to the successful party.
