Teen Counselor Charged with Sex Crimes

Anything of a sexual nature involving children is illegal, including viewing and sharing of child porn. The Crimes Against Children Unit became the initiator of an investigation after it was found that child porn was being distributed from a residence. A Maryland social worker has been charged withsex crimes involving the possession and distribution of child pornography. It's important for blog readers to remember that just because someone has been accused of a crime, however, does not mean they are necessarily guilty.

After an investigation was launched into purported porn distribution, a search warrant was issued to enter the accused individual's home. During the search, authorities allegedly discovered multiple computer devices that had child pornographic photos that were also intentionally shared with others. According to authorities, there has been no evidence obtained that suggest he engaged in any sexual activity with children.

The suspect is a teen counselor at Anne Arundel Counseling and is also a licensed social worker. He was arrested and taken to the Baltimore County jail facility, where he's being held on a $200,000 bail. No other information about this case has been reported.

Sex crimes are a serious matter for defendants to contend with and the charges can be frightening for those who fear a conviction. Understandably, state prosecutors vigorously seek to convict for alleged crimes of this nature, but they will need to meet a strict burden of proof in front of a judge or jury for that to be accomplished. Maryland defendants who are charged with any serious crime have the right to challenge any piece of evidence prosecutors wish to use against them and testify on their own behalf. They also further have the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a criminal courtroom.
